I hear that there are friendly people at HBU, but I am still scared about transitioning to college. For a good portion of my life, people haven't been too kind to me. I know it's because of the way I look. Unfortunately, not all people are like God--they look at my appearance and judge me wrongly before they can even get to know me. I just feel so alone sometimes. Can you promise me that I'll be able to make friends when I get to HBU?

Guaranteed you will make friends. IF you are willing to put yourself out there! There are a lot of friendly people in HBU campus. There is just one thing you would have to do! Just walk around with a smile and just say hello. Here’s a quote from the movie “We Bought a Zoo”.
“All it takes is 20 seconds of courage”
You are not defined by your looks. If people judge you because of how you look, why surround yourself with those kinds of people?
According to the bible, you have be “fearfully and wonderfully made” created and molded by God. Don’t worry about making friends because you will make them :) all it takes is a simple “Hi” :)

Are you coming to a SOAR session?!?!? Which SOAR?

Man, look at how the days are flying by!

Districts 9 & 10 wishing you an enjoyable summer break! We can’t believe we barely have a week left until we start seeing you here! We are all so excited! Everyone is getting excited as they are thinking about all of the new friendships we will make over SOAR! Have a blessed week and we can’t wait to see you in 9 days!

And the #CountDown to #HBUSOAR14 begins! We can’t believe we are #13Days out before the first group of y’all comes to HBU!
Rachel and Kayleigh (pictured above) and the entire admissions team has been anticipating and preparing for your arrival!
Anthony, Erica, and Carissa (pictured below) have been diligently assisting the admissions team and their fellow SOAR leaders in preparation for your arrival. All 3 are returning SOAR leaders and are just as excited for everyone to be here!

Hey everyone, It’s Anthony!

I know this a bit late, but a few weeks ago, two of the biggest annual events on campus occurred!

The first event was the BYX Island Party, several of the SOAR Leaders attended, showing support to one of the fraternities of the campus. Various activities were there: from a foam pit, to a giant game of limbo, to dancing on a hand-built dance floor! Greek Life is one of the best ways to get plugged in on campus! HBU has 3 fraternities and 5 sororities, each offering amazing groups of people you’ll want to get to know and maybe call brothers or sisters!

The second event was the annual HBU Spring Fling! Normally held in front of the Hodo Residence College, this year took an interesting twist as it occurred at Lawrence Park by Belin Chapel. We had two of the local food trucks, The Waffle Bus and Coreanos, come out to do business! Both were absolutely amazing! Other attractions there were the photo booth (complete with props!), mechanical bull, and DJ. It was a great time for the community to come together to spend time in fellowship with students and staff before finals rolled around.

Other BIG annual events that occur on campus are: Welcome Days (designed specifically for you FRESHMEN to have four fun-packed days before the start of your first semester!), Homecoming Week, Winter Formal, Husky Revue, and Husky Hunks! Each event is extremely exciting and each has its own flavor to add to the HBU experience.

Hope y’all are having a great summer! I, and the other SOAR leaders, can’t wait to see y’all!

P.S. SOAR 1 begins in 16 days!!!
